Why Dogs on Board?
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
There are a lot of ways to walk a dog. We wanted to do things a little differently.
Dogs on Board is built around small, structured adventure packs, safety, variety, and getting to know the individual dog in front of us.
Small Packs, On Purpose
Our packs typically include 4–6 dogs. Smaller groups allow us to pay attention to individual dogs, manage group dynamics, and create a calmer, more structured environment while still giving dogs the social experience of being part of a pack.
We Switch Up Our Adventures
We don't go to the exact same park and walk the exact same route every day.
Weather, timing, driving, and the dogs we have that day all play a part in where we can go, but whenever possible, we switch it up!
Dogs experience so much of the world through their noses. A different park means new smells, different trails, new environments, and new things to explore.
Some days we're wandering trails. Some days we're in a big open space. Some days we're at the river. And we often purposely choose somewhere quieter because that's what we prefer for our packs.
There's actually a lot of thought that goes into where we take each pack.
Structure Without Taking Away the Fun
Structured doesn't mean walking in a perfect little line for an hour.
Our dogs still get to run, sniff, explore, play, and be dogs. Structure comes from boundaries, check-ins, recall, appropriate social interactions, and knowing when a dog needs a little extra guidance.
We want dogs to have freedom, but we want that freedom to be safe.
We Get to Know Your Dog
Not every dog needs the same thing.
Some dogs jump into pack life like they've been doing it forever. Others need more time, support, or management while they settle in.
We pay attention to things like confidence, recall, play style, body language, energy levels, and changing needs so we can make decisions based on the individual dog rather than treating every dog exactly the same.
Safety Comes First
From smaller pack sizes and vehicle separation to weather adjustments, first-aid training, and choosing appropriate parks, safety is built into how we operate.
Plans sometimes change because we're working with live animals, Calgary weather, and a whole lot of moving pieces.
If we think something needs to change for the safety or well-being of the dogs in our care, we'll make that call.
Communication & Trust
You trust us with a pretty important member of your family, and we don't take that lightly.
If your dog gets sick, isn't acting like themselves, has an uncomfortable interaction, or we notice something you should know about, we'll tell you.
And if you're ever wondering how your dog is doing in the pack, just ask!
More Than One Familiar Face
Dogs on Board isn't built around just one person.
Having multiple walkers gives us more flexibility when schedules change, someone is away, or life inevitably happens. It also gives our dogs the opportunity to become comfortable with more than one familiar person while still following the same general routines, expectations, and safety standards.
We know consistency matters, so we take introductions seriously and want our dogs to feel comfortable with the people handling them.
One Place for Everything
Running multiple packs, walkers, pickups, schedule changes, photos, invoices, and approximately one million dog-related details requires a little organization.
We use Time To Pet, a professional dedicated pet-care software so clients have one place for scheduling, cancellations, communication, invoices, and photos.
It keeps important information from getting lost in texts, personal phones, or social media messages and helps everyone stay on the same page.
More Than Just Tiring Them Out
Of course we love sending home a happily exhausted dog.
But that's not the only goal.
We want our dogs getting physical exercise, mental enrichment, social experiences, new smells, different environments, and opportunities to build confidence.
Because to us, that's what makes it an adventure pack walk.
